Lou Box Dress 1 Caftan Hack

As soon as I returned from my trip to Denmark last month, I’d focused my sewing queue on my next trip to Hawaii next month. Going on trips and sewing for them is kind of the best cycle of activity, right? When I’m in Hawaii I like to dress in light loose layers with lots of coverage to protect from the sun. A caftan fulfills all of those requirements. For this caftan I modified my Lou Box Dress 1 pattern. This is actually a variation of the design that I initially considered including in the pattern but thought it would be a little challenging to sew in knit fabric.

Today’s garment is the loose-fitting, dare I say hippie-ish, Aren’t Pants by Sew Liberated. These pants feature exaggerated side pockets, a large gathered waistband and flat fell seams running down the center of the front and back legs. They are the ultimate in comfort and utility (those pockets!!). Yet the exaggerated pockets also give the pants are really interesting silhouette that I just could not resist trying.

DIY Easy Collared Shirt – Review of the Willamette Shirt by Hey June Patterns

Earlier this year I worked on evaluating my wardrobe using the Seamwork Magazine Design Your Wardrobe series. The series of worksheets helped me evaluate what was missing from my wardrobe and the styles of garments that I’d like to sew. (You can learn more about the course here.) One of the things I discovered is that I like boxy tops. After a little research, I found the Willamette Shirt by Hey June patterns. It’s an easy to sew collared shirt with a loose, boxy fit. Just what I was looking for.
